I wouldn't be concerned about the confirmation email if you are able to log into Mozy.com.
If you are unable to log in to Mozy.com for any reason then use the forgot password link to rest your password.

So glad to hear you got the login all figured out! You definitely can use Sync as a free user, but it will limit you to the 2GB for the whole account. So your backup and Sync will have to share that same 2GB of data.
There are also a few downsides to using the Free version. For example, if your machine goes without a backup for more than 30 days your account may be deleted for inactivity. You also wont have access to any support other than the KB and the community forums.
If you'd like to make that transition I can certainly create a case and help you downgrade though. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed.
