i have recently reformatted, i installed mozy and it wants me to replace another machine with this one, well, this is the same machine. by doing this i have to upload all my stuff again, whats the point of that? i'm not about to do that, if Mozy can't fix it fast, i will use something else. the only thing i can think of is the way they identify a machine, i added a new sound card, and a esata card. regardless, this is pretty poor if you ask me, i have reformatted many times in the past and never had this issue.

This is a (relatively) new feature. Previously, if we could match the machine, we silently replaced it. Since getting a new computer and wanting to transfer your subscription to that computer is a common scenario, we added the replace machine step to the setup wizard, allowing you to select a machine that didn't match the current one. As long as you select the correct machine, it's the same behavior as before.
great, now it says it's going to delete my files in 30 days, so i have to re-upload everything? that is what i want to avoid, not to mention, it's the same machine so what the heck is wrong with mozy?
Read some of the other threads michaelg04 and you'll get a better idea of what's going on. Your files aren't going to reupload unless they've changed, and will be un-marked for deletion when they sync up.
heh, well thats good and all, maybe it should say that in the app itself, instead of me wasting time trying to figure out why it wants to delete all my files.
why does it think this is another machine?
Because it is a different machine according to any program. The Machine hash (long character string that represents the machine) is not going to be the same after a reformat. If you run a machine hash checker, and write down the characters somewhere, then reformat and run the same hash checker, the characters won't match.
so then how did it not do this to me the many other times i reformatted? i don't think you know what you are talking about.
Every time I've reformatted I've had to. I reformat my computer every 6 months or so. I also manage thousands of computers for our company that have Mozy and we have reformatted many of them, every time having to "Replace Machine" in one form or another.
With pro of course you don't notice the replacement as it does it when you use the same key, but if you use network activation on your domain or use a home account you will notice.
well, i have reformatted this machine several times since i first subscribed to mozy. from vista, through all the windows 7 betas and RC, and probably 4 or 5 times since 7 released, this is the first time it's ever told me this.
I agree with Invisiblade. I've done this countless times and it always has to go through a "re-association" of old files. What's new is not the re-association process, but the "replace machine" dialog.
