How do I restore an external drive that crashed before the earliest backup on my restore list? Looks like it crashed about 6 weeks ago - I was traveling and just saw it is kaput. Trying to restore and the historical list only goes back about 1 month. I didn't realize Mozy eliminates old data when a drive dies. Sort of misses the point.
I've been a MozyHome user for years. I never needed to restore anything. Now that I do that would really stink if my data wasn't there just because the crash of a drive happened a little while ago.
Is there a way to get at older data than what is shown in the restore portal?
Bummer - I hate to read posts like yours. I'll leave it for the Mozy staff to check to see if your data is truly gone, but based on the way Mozy works - it probably is gone.

If a backup occurs while the external drive is missing from the system, then the files are marked for deletion in 30 days. There are other online backup services (archive services) that do not delete files like this, but they require you to manually sync your files (in other words, if you delete a file locally, then you must manually delete the same file online). Mozy does not operate that way.
There has been a lot of discussion about this "30 day deletion" thing and how best to warn the user about it. It is mentioned during installation process for Mozy (which does not help long time users) and it was added to the history a while back:

This has been discussed to death - Mozy can be an archive service (manual process) or a data syncing service (automated service). If you can figure out a way to be both at the same time - post it in the forum's idea section:
(I don't mean for that to sound snarky.)
If you opt to stay with Mozy, then consider using some tricks to prevent the automated backups from automatically deleting old files: http://community.mozy.com/t5/Mozy-for-Windows/why-
The online chat also reminded me that Mozy is a disaster recovery service, not an archive service. But this is my disaster... I just happened to be out of the country for 5 weeks and didn't catch the crash. So I've been subscribing for this moment, and it's a complete misfire. I guess I will pay the gajillion dollars to have my drive restored directly.
And I was so pompous that I've been using Mozy, so all my files are safe... I'll pay more attention to the next service I use (since I can't possibly stay with Mozy on principle, even if this is my fault).
Please take a look at this post on your way out :-)
