I have a large PST file (about 7M) that appears to need to be backed up every time I connect with Mozy for backup. My understanding of Mozy's operations was it took only the changed info and didn't require a full retransmission of the entire file. Does the PST change significantly at the block level requiring full upload each time?
I need it backedup and I'll live with the 8-10 hour uploads daily if necessary.

You are correct. Mozy after the initial upload of the PST file will only backup the changes and not the entire file each time there is a change. These changes are referred to as patches. You can see these changes/patches in the History window of Mozy after each backup.
hashemh, with all due respect. I'm sorry, but I don't think you answered the question - and I am having the exact same problem. Every day when Mozy runs it wants to back up the ENTIRE 5BG Outlook.pst file; not just the incremental changes. It is taking 10 hours. Every day. That is not right. Please advise the solution to this problem; thanks.
Pst files do change a lot when even the smallest change happens (like a single new email). In the newest version we've change some things on how pst files are monitored in order to not have to backup as much each time. However if you have a lot of changes the file will still change enough that the incremental isn't much smaller if at all then the full size of the file.
Thank you, but that is not the case. The entire 5GB Outlook.pst file uploads every single time, even if Outlook was merely opened and a single 1kb new e-mail was sent or received. Mozy 1.xx did not do this. This is a flaw in Mozy 2.0 which makes it pretty much unusable.
Do you want to try to go back to 1.16.1 and see if you have the same issue. You will have to un-install and re-install, thus backing up it in it's entiretly then, but after that see if the changes are causing the full file to upload.
I was hoping for a fix to Mozy 2.x, but reverting to 1.x is "Plan B." I do know that the backups of Outlook.pst were incremental until I "upgraded" to 2.x.
Even if you make NO changes to the PST, the Mozy client will still, at some point, attempt to back up the entire PST file all over again. Even if it's been backed up in its entirety before. Our 300+ client installs have suffered from this problem without any real solution from Mozy.
I have lots of old .pst files, which have old emails from the last few years. Mozy did not back these up after the first backup. Since I updated Mozy to the new version, it tries to back up every old .PST file (e.g. my 2004 emails, 2005 emails, 2006 emails, etc) every single day. This takes about 10 hours per file and makes Mozy almost completely unuseable. Why does it now try to do this, whereas before it only backed up the current Outlook file every so often? It now backs up every pst file every day!
I started having this PST issue about a week ago too. I have almost 10 differen PST files on my PC (Win7 64-bit home running Mozy home 18.104.22.168) and I only touch one ot two every month or so. The others are old and just sit there, but now every time Mozy starts a backup it encodes every single PST looking for changes that don't exist. I've checked my history logs and they have been successfully backed up since my last changeto them, so it isn't that they are being backed up due to content changes and I have not opened them or attached to them in Outlook either (since this marks the file as having been updated). The result is that it takes almost constant Mozy processing to make it through a full backup now.
