How to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged computer (MozyHome)

If you need to recover your files to a new machine after your computer has been lost, stolen or damaged, Mozy can help.  This tutorial explains how.

 

 

STEPS:

 

  1. First, install Mozy onto the new computer by logging into your Mozy account at Mozy.com/login. Click Download Mozy. Download the appropriate installer for your machine and begin the installation.
  2. In the Setup Wizard, you are asked if you wish to add this computer to your account or replace a previously backed up computer. Select Replace existing computer and click Next.
  3. If you have more than one computer in your account, select the computer you want to replace. 
  4. You have to option to restore your backed up files now or later. Remember you have only 30 days to restore your files before they are removed from the MozyHome servers. Select Restore files Now and click Finish
  5. Log into your MozyHome account in the browser window that opens.
  6. Click Restore Files next your old machine.
  7. Restore files using a Web restore, as outlined in this tutorial, Web Restore: How to restore all the files you have backed up with Mozy

I received an e-mail that under certain conditions, Mozy can to an IP check to help find a stolen computer. I can't find out what the conditions are? Does that apply to all versions of Mozy backup, or only certain ones? Thanks

If the computer has completed a successful back up after being stolen then it is possible for us to retrieve the IP address from the location that the backup was made.

 

This is not specific to any type of account and can be done on all. The stipulation is that your computer has performed the backup after being stolen.

I'd like to give you a little further information on this topic.  If your machine is stolen, and you are wanting Mozy to try to do an IP trace for you, you need to make sure that you do NOT install Mozy on your new machine and run the "replace machine wizard" during the setup.  If you do, then all records will be transferred to the new machine, and we will no longer be able to perform the IP trace for you, as this will now show your new machine.  Once the IP trace has been completed, you may then "replace" the machine on your Mozy account and continue forward with your backups.

As an "older" citizen, I'm lookong for help on how to get my purchased MoxyHome product onto a second (my wife's) computer, In other words how do I register a second "machine" in my account?

You account can be used on 3 computer, you are only using 1, just download the software on her computer and use the same username and password. the two computer will share the space you have on the account.
