Backup failed. Received "UpdateRequired0" message in history log. Don't know why s/w didn't automatically update. Had to d/l and install s/w, and reboot PC.
I don't know why Mozy didn't take care of this on its own.
We'll see if the backup is successful. s/w has history of backups failing.
Sometimes, Mozy seems more like a hobby than a professional product.

KenDoe,
The account has reported a successful backup.
I had a quick look to your account and log file.
It seems that Mozy has automatically updated itself during the last scheduled automatic or at least started the update.
Have you come across a specific error message other than 'UpdateRequired0'?
When Mozy kicks a backup, it checks the latest version available, whether it requires an update it will download the latest version silently and cancel the current backup then install.
Thanks
Jerome

The update should happen after the backup. If the backup fails, then another backup should be attempted immediately after the update installs - or after the reboot if such is required. Since I have the Mozy app set to backup 12 times a day, it was not a big deal to me, but it sure could be to others. Just think if a user had it set to backup once a week and the Mozy app just silently decides it can skip a week. What were the programmers thinking?
In my case, the next backup was about 13 hours later since the Mozy app is not very good at making use of this setting:
...but that is just a passing comment. I don't want to hijack this thread and get off on that tangent.

I seem to have a similar problem as KenDoe reported. I have MozyHOME but the autoupdate seems to have given me the latest MozyPRO client. Are the following latest versions correct:
MozyHOME = 2.8.2.5
MozyPRO = 2.8.3.1
My MozyHOME client was autoupdated to 2.8.3.1 on 8/1/2011 and my nightly updates quit. The last entry in my History log is from 8/1/2011 and the error is UpdateRequired0 ... immediately after I was autoupdated and prompted to reboot, which I did successfully.
I have posted my scenario as a new post on this board.

Rob,
The easiest way to check if you were auto-updated to a MozyPro client, is to look at the Mozy Icon in your system tray. If it is orange and grey checkered, then you have MozyHome. Green and Grey checkered is MozyPro. You can also right click on the Mozy icon and then select "About" and it should tell you which version you are using. You may have just updated from one version to the next as they were both released fairly close together.
I hope that helps!

James,
Thanks for your reply. I have attached two screenshots that I hope will illustrate my question more clearly.
I have MozyHome (orange / gray icon) ... but the About window reports I have version 2.8.3.1, which is the current version of the Pro client, not the Home client, which is only up to version 2.8.2.5.
The Google cache of http://mozy.com/home/download/ as it appeared on Aug 1, 2011 at 22:20:48 GMT shows the Pro client version number on the Home download page. The Home download page now correctly shows the Home client version number.
I believe the autoupdate updated me to the incorrect client and my scheduled nightly backups have not run since.
Because of potential problems with the registry keys, etc. (I'm running a fully updated XP OS), I didn't just want to forge ahead and manually update to the Home client until someone from Mozy concurred that I should do that.
Thanks again,
Rob

Current MozyHome version appears to be 2.8.4.0.

Thanks! They seem to be updating the versions quickly these days. I went ahead and manually updated to 2.8.4.0 and will see if my backup runs successfully with it.

Wow! This is exactly what happened to me and I have been struggling to figure out what happened. I knew that the only change on my PC was that MozyHome auto update showed up and then I rebooted the PC. Since then no auto backups. Crazy!
Now, I have to go find the latest software, install it manually and then find out if things go back to normal.
Mozy guys where are you? Why can't you send your customers emails stating the known issue?
Also, what beats me is the fact that Mozy updates don't even give you an opportunity to read the release notes to tell us what changed from the previous version. Is there a place on Mozy's website I can read the version history - what was fixed, what features are added etc.?
