This seems to happen more and more often and frankly it's driving me crazy. The MozyHomeBackup process will routinely begin hogging all my CPU, routinely using around 160% to 200% CPU on my 2010 Macbook i7 (Lion 10.7.3).
This usually occurs several hours after a clean reboot, but also several hours before the next scheduled backup, so I have no clue as to why MozyHomeBackup would be kicking in like this. Disk read/write activity is constant right now, though I have not made any major changes to any files that are part of the backup set.
In fact, I just had to sit and wait TWO MINUTES as I got a spinning beachball and was unable to do anything. As I am typing this, Firefox is using only 2% CPU while MozyHomeBackup is using over 170%! And Mozy's status indicates it's not even backing up, nor scanning, nor even preparing for a backup. (Which isn't scheduled for another couple hours anyway, with only 180mb to be backed up).
Right now, Mozy is still utilizing 170% CPU while the next highest is Firefox (now) at only 5%. Mozy is also currently using 3.29gb of 8gb Total memory. This is RIDICULOUS. I also 46gb of free hard drive space. I tried opening the Mozy System Preferences pane about 10 minutes ago, and it has yet to appear.
I keep my OS X Lion regularly updated, permissions regularly repaired, hard drive regularly checked/verified and caches regularly cleared as well. While having backups are indeed important to me, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to justify paying over $30/month for software that essentially is rendering my computer unusable, especially at times when said software is supposed to be idle!
The CPU hogging by Mozy is so bad that clicking on menus and other window elements causes a 5-second delay. It really is like working with a machine that has become slow as molasses. And the only way to fix it is to reboot.

Hi there,
If you did an upgrade to 2.6 from 2.5 please try the following:
1. Uninstall 2.6
2. Make sure "Keep configuration and log files" is NOT checked.
3. Reboot
4. Download and reinstall 2.6 (https://secure.mozy.com/downloads/mozy-2_6_0_476-3
5. Select the files and folder you want to backup.
Please let us know if this does not help.

I am seeing this same issue with 2.6.2.520. I have uninstalled while deselecting "keep configuration", rebooted, reinstalles and the MozyHomeBackup starts up consuming 2GB+ of memory, almost 100% of both processor cores, and depletes my battery in 30 minutes or less.
