Re mozyutil wont connect to cloud

when I perform a mozyutil state command I get the following error:

Great question @jsktechnology

 

Can you provide more information, including Mozy Logs and System logs (syslog), attached to your Support Case: 01356360? You can use the instructions provided below for gathering these logs, making sure to select option 2) complete

 

Also, can you tell us more about this machines specs, ie. RAM and CPU usage, and when Mozy is running? Going over the Backup History, it appears to be successfully backing up, but just provides errors with mozyutil state or are these occurring during failed backups not appearing in your account? This machine is backing up around 73K files, but only 1.7 MB, all appearing under one directory.  As you mention in your case that the mozy-daemon stops/restarts after each failure suggests that either:

A) Mozy request to make a snapshot of the files to /tmp is too taxing on the system which kills the process

B) There is an error with the daemon directly which should manifest in a crash report

 

The last time I saw this error, it was caused by too many files in a single location and the system resources just could not handle the request. This has been addressed by our Developement team, with more information still pending. 

 

Try running:

ls -R /home | wc -l

How long does this take to process, and what are your resources listed in top showing?

 


 

 

New for the Mozy Linux forum, we provide a simple way to gather required logs to address the situation. These are found in the script:

/usr/sbin/mozysendlogs.sh

You can call script and then providing an email address, as in this example:

 

sudo /usr/sbin/mozysendlogs.sh dillon@mozy.com

 

Next, select option 1) compact or 2) complete. The differences are that option 2 provides crash reports, and two .dat files utilized during the backup, including all the files contained in option 1. Mozy will gather the logs and compress in /tmp/[EMAIL]_[EPOCH TIME].tgz.  You can now upload to your case or email to the support technician handling your case.
