Preparing for Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma is fast approaching, and there's been a lot of talk about it being the biggest Atlantic storm on record. This week we've received many calls from customers who are in the path of this tremendous storm all asking the same thing-"Am I backed up?"

While we hope that the safety of you and your loved ones is the number one priority, we also know that many of your important memories and information is stored on your computers, many of which you may not be able to take with you if you have to evacuate.

Today we wanted to take a moment to talk about how you can ensure your data is backed up before you leave your home, so if something terrible happens and your computer is lost to you, your files are safe and secure in the cloud and can be retrieved when you're back on your feet.

Are You Backing Up Everything You Need?

The first thing you'll want to check is that everything you need backed up, anything irreplaceable that you'd hate to lose, is selected for backup. To ensure that your files are fully selected, please see: How do I select files for backup?

When was the last time a backup ran?

You can check your account, or the History on your computer, to see the last time a backup ran. For help checking, see: How do I verify the backups are running correctly?

Start a Manual Backup Now

Regardless of whether it's been a day, or three, you should start a manual backup now to make sure it gets any changes you've made to your selections. It's also good to have one more good backup in before you shut the computer down and head out. To run a manual backup, see: How do I start a manual backup?

Make sure the backup completes successfully before shutting your computer down.

If You Need to Restore

We hope that when you return you'll find your home safe and your computer unaffected, but should you need to restore files, we have many resources available to you. Should you need to download your files to your new computer, see: Requesting Web Restore for All Files

When You're Ready to Reinstall Mozy

If you get a new computer and need to reinstall Mozy on it, you can do so by following the steps in one of the following articles:

Please don't hesitate to contact support if you have any questions or concerns at any point in this process. We're here and happy to help with whatever we can.
