Sync is a fairly easy software to install and use, so once you have it installed and set it up on all computers that will be syncing together, you should be good to simply start using Mozy Sync on your computers by putting files into your Sync folder. There are a few different ways to get your files into Sync, and once they're in, they'll instantly share over to the other computers where Sync is installed.
The Sync Folder
When you install Sync on a computer, the Sync folder is automatically created on that computer for you to utilize and access. Simply drag and drop, copy and paste, or save files into the Sync folder for them to be shared to your Sync container and across to any machines you've also installed Sync on for sharing. It's accessible just like any other folder on your computer, and stored in your User folder.
The Sync Folder in Windows
In Windows, the Sync folder is stored in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Mozy Sync and you can typically access it in any File Explorer window under your Quick Access links.
The Sync Folder in Mac OSX
The Sync folder in OSX is stored in /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Mozy Sync and can often be found in any Finder window on the left-hand side in the Favorites section.
Uploading Files to Sync via the Web
You can also upload files directly to Sync via the web. This is great for any time you're not on a computer where Sync is installed, but you want to save a file or share it to your Sync folder. To upload files to Sync via the web, follow these steps:

Click on Search/List Users from the left-hand menu
Click on the email of the User you'd like to access Sync from
In the User panel that loads below click on Restore Files from the upper right hand corner or click on the folder icon under the actions column to the right of Sync
Click on Synced from the left side of the Web Access Panel
Click on the Actions button in the upper right, directly below your name/username
Click on Upload Files from the Actions panel
Click Add Files in the Upload Files screen
Select the file(s) from the computer
Click Upload Files
You'll then see the progress of the file uploads at the top of the screen and notifications on the right side (click on the orange notification bubble to open them) with more details about your uploads.
Sync Directly from Your iOS or Android Device
You can also upload files directly through the Mozy Mobile App on your iOS or Android Device.
How to Get the Mozy Mobile App
The Mozy Mobile App is available for iOS devices in the App Store and also for Android devices in the Marketplace. You can also click directly to it by logging into your account and accessing the downloads section in your left-hand menu.
How to Sync via the Mobile App on iOS
Open the Mozy mobile app and enter your passcode if necessary.
To upload an existing photo or video, tap Choose from Library.
To take and upload a new photo, tap Use Camera. Take the photo and then tap Use Photo and skip to step 5 of these instructions.
Select the file you want to upload and then tap Done.
Upload the file using one of the following methods:
To automatically complete the upload, tap Mobile Uploads.
Tap Other, choose a location, then tap Upload.
You'll then see the progress, as well as a history of uploaded files. While the Sync is in progress, you can also click on the X to cancel it. Once they're uploaded they'll be synced across to any other devices with the Sync folder/mobile app installed.
How to Sync via the Mobile App on an Android Device
On your Android device, browse to the location where the file is stored or was received.
Share the file with Mozy.
Note: Your device may use terms such as Send or Export instead of Share.
Chose one of the following options:
Touch and hold the file.
Open the file then tap Share.
Tap Menu, then tap Share. (Note: the icon may be or . )
Tap Menu, then tap File, then tap Share.
Open the file and choose a document viewer app to view the file with. In the document viewer, tap Share.
Tap the Mozy icon. The file should then open with the Mozy mobile app.
Choose a folder to save the file.
Note: For Android devices, you may need to install a document viewer app before you can share files with the Mozy mobile app. Search Google Play for document viewer. If you cannot share files with the app you installed, try installing a different document viewer app.
Accessing Files in Sync
Need to access files in Sync? No problem. You can simply open the Sync folder on any device where Mozy is Synced and the files will be there. You can also log into your account and restore a file from Sync via the web, or access a file from the Sync folder in the Mobile app.

Best Practices for Using Mozy Sync on Windows
If you're using Sync on a regular basis, there are some best practices you should be aware of to ensure you are getting the most out of it.
The Sync Right-Click/Drop-Down Menu
Just like the Mozy Backup software, Mozy Sync uses a right-click menu (Windows) or a drop-down menu (Mac) as it's main base of operations. From there, you can access just about everything you need with Mozy Sync. Here's a run-down of what you'll find in that menu, and now to use it. To access this menu, right-click on the Sync icon in the System Tray down by the time and date.
To access the Sync Menu in Windows Right-click on the Mozy icon in the System Tray, down by the time and date.
To access the Sync Menu in Mac OSX click on the Sync icon in the upper menu bar.
Here are the options as they appear in the menu:
Open Mozy Sync Folder: This option will take you directly to the Sync folder in Windows Explorer to access your files.
The first gray line shows you the status of your Sync. If there are any problems, or it has been a while, it will tell you here.
The second gray line will only appear if Sync is currently syncing, and it will show you the name of the file it's currently working on.
The third gray line shows you how much storage you've used.
Pause: This will pause your Sync client so that it stops syncing until you tell it to start syncing again. If the Sync is already paused, you will see Resume here instead.
Recent Activity: This will show you the most recent files uploaded. If you click on More... from the second portion of the right-click menu, it will load your Sync history.
Preferences: Clicking this will take you to the Mozy Sync Preferences. We'll go into that more in just a moment.
Access Files Online.../Restore Files...: Clicking either of these will load your default web browser and take you to your Synced folder in your account online.
Help: This will give you a sub menu with these options:
Online Documentation...: Loads your web browser and takes you to the online documentation regarding Mozy Sync.
Support and Feedback...: Loads your web browser and takes you to a comprehensive list of helpful Knowledge Base articles regarding Mozy Sync.
Collect Log Files: Prompts you to choose a location to save the files to, then collects all the necessary Sync logs and saves them there. It's useful for when you contact Support to provide information.
Exit: This closes the right-click menu.
Using the Mozy Sync Preferences
The Sync Preferences are very similar between the two platforms (Mac and Windows).
To access the Sync Preferences in Windows:
Right-click on the Sync icon in the System Tray by the time and date on your computer.
Select Preferences from the right-click menu
To access the Sync Preferences in OSX:
Click on the Sync icon in the upper menu bar
Select Preferences from the drop-down menu
The Status Tab
The Sync Preferences menu has two tabs along the top. The first tab is your Status tab. This gives you more information about your Sync and options for accessing it.
Open Sync Folder: This takes you to the Sync folder in Windows Explorer.
Status: This section shows you the progress of your syncing. All files up to date implies that nothing is waiting.
Pause: Allows you to pause your Sync until you tell it to start again. If it's already paused, this button will say Resume instead. Clicking Resume allows it to start syncing files again.
The top bar in this section shows you files sending. It will show you if it's currently sending files, if there are files waiting to be sent, as well as state No files to send if the sync is current and nothing is pending.
The second bar in this section shows you files receiving-meaning files that are being downloaded/put into the Sync folder in Windows on this computer that were synced from the account/mobile/sync folder on other computers. It will show if it's currently receiving files, if there are files pending receipt, or say No files to receive if it's currently up to date.
Storage Usage: This section will give you a breakdown of the storage used. In green, you'll see the storage used specifically by your Sync folder. In blue, you'll see the storage used by your backup associated with the same account/user.
Account Information: This section provides more information about the account/user that Sync is associated with.
Computer: The name of the computer where Sync is currently installed.
Mozy Account: The email address associated with the account/user this Sync folder belongs to.
View Account...: This button loads your Mozy account online.
The Settings Tab
This tab allows you to access and change your Sync settings.
Device: This section shows you more information about the computer where Mozy is currently installed.
Name: The name of the computer you're accessing Sync preferences from.
Unlink Computer: This option unlinks your computer from your Mozy account. It is useful if you've hit your computer limit with Sync and with to switch out machines that are currently Syncing, or if you're having difficulties with your Sync connecting to the account properly and want to re-link it. Once you unlink the machine it will no longer sync files. For more information, see: How do I unlink my computer from Sync?
Sync Folder Location: This shows the location of the Sync folder on your computer.
Rename: This allows you to rename the Sync folder to anything of your choice.
Network: This allows you to adjust network settings for Sync.
Limit Bandwidth: Checking the box to Limit Bandwidth will allow you to set up a cap on the amount of bandwidth Mozy Sync is able to use when Syncing. On most newer computers and networks this is unnecessary, however it can be useful if you have a bandwidth cap provided by your ISP, or your computer/network is slow and you don't want Sync going over.
Proxy Settings: (Only available in the Windows Client) If you are using a Proxy on your network, you will want to go into the Proxy settings here to make sure Sync is set up to properly connect via that Proxy.
Options: A few other options to enable or disable for your Sync settings.
Start Mozy Sync at login: Enabling this allows the Sync service to automatically load when the computer is started up. Disabling this will make it so you are required to manually run the Sync program before anything can Sync.
Show event notifications: Enabling this allows Mozy Sync to provide notifications through Windows Notifications. It will show a small pop up when files sync, when there are errors/issues, etc.
Show sync status badges on files and folders: (Only available in the Windows client) This is like the icon overlay when it comes to backups in Windows, and it will show small status icons on the files in your Sync folder to indicate whether they are synced or not.
The green check indicates that the file is fully synced and up-to-date
The yellow arrow indicates a previously synced file with changes currently syncing or waiting to sync
The red exclamation point indicates a file that has not synced or has failed to sync
Require password to access files online: Enabling this will make required to type in the email address and password when using the Access files online... or Restore files... options from the right-click menu. Disabling it will allow Mozy to automatically log you in when you do so. Disabling is great if you want to just quickly access files, but enabling it can be useful if you are on a shared computer and do not want the other users or members of your household/office to have access to your files.
You can also see the version of Sync you currently have installed in the bottom right hand corner of either tab. You can download the latest version of Sync from the downloads section of your account, as well as from the Mozy Downloads page.
A Few Tips for Best Use of Sync
Once Sync is set up and you have your settings configured, you can simply use Sync. However, here are a few things you should know in order to make best use of the Sync client.
Options and Information for the Mozy Sync Folder
There are more things you can do with the Sync folder than you may realize. Here are a few things...
Sync Works Like Other Folders on Your Computer
This means you can create new folders within Sync, copy/paste, delete files, etc. just as you would in any other folder on your computer. There are some differences, such as it will be actively Syncing so you wont want to try and move the entire Sync folder around or delete the whole thing.
Unlike the Mozy backup software, if you have multiple users on your computer, you have the choice to set Sync up to allow your users to share the same Mozy account and Sync folder, or use separate individual Mozy accounts with their own Sync folders. Either way, the Sync software only needs to be installed once on the computer, but it will run at User level for the Preferences and the Sync folder.
While you technically can put everything in your Sync folder, it's not always best practice to do so.
Large Amounts of Data/Too Many Files
While there's no set file-size limit in your Sync folder, and you technically can put anything you want in it, but we recommend not putting too much in Sync. Too many files can cause slowing and difficulty with Sync. Just keep it updated and clean, and only put what you want shared in there, not everything you want stored from the computers.
Database/Large Active Files
To sync files in Mozy Sync they must be closed and not in use on all computers with Sync installed. This means that files like database files, such as your Outlook PST files or your Exchange Databases, which are almost always in use and updating regularly, wont Sync over properly until the programs accessing them are entirely closed down on all computers.
