Summer is coming to an end, and you probably have a camera or phone full of wonderful vacation photos. These photos are important and looking at them years down the road will bring back all of the wonderful memories of times you experienced while away from your desk. Let's talk about how to make sure you back them up so you never lose them...
Transfer the Files to Your Computer
The first thing you're going to want to do is transfer those vacation photos to your computer. Whether that's from your phone, or from an SD card or other method, make sure you get those photos transferred over to your computer and saved somewhere easy to find.
Select the Files for Backup in the Mozy Settings
After you have the files successfully saved where you can find them on your computer, it's time to select them in the Mozy settings to make sure they get successfully backed up.
How to Select Files for Backup in Mozy for Windows
Right-click the Mozy icon ( / ), then select Settings, and then More Settings.
Select the File System tab.
Select the files or folders you want to backup.
Note: It is important to pay attention to the color of the check boxes in your settings when selecting files.
Folders with a check mark and clear background have everything within the folder selected for backup. New files added to these folders will be automatically added to your backup.
A folder with a check mark and a grey background means that not all of the files/folders within the folder are selected for backup. New files added to these locations may not be automatically added to your backup.
If some of your options are grayed out, click on the Change settings that are currently unavailable link at bottom of Mozy settings window to select system files and folders for backup.
How to Select Files for Backup in Mozy for Mac
Click the Mozy icon, then select Open Mozy Preferences.
Select Files & Folders, and then select files or folders for backup.
Note: It is important to pay attention to the color of the dots in your settings when selecting files.
A green dot next to a folder name indicates that an entire directory is selected for backup. New files added to this location will automatically be added to your backup.
A yellow dot, that means that not all files or folders are selected within the folder. New files added to these locations may not be automatically added to your backup.
Start a Backup
Once you have the files properly and fully selected (pay attention to the color of the dots or check boxes as indicated above), make sure you run a backup to start the transfer of your recently selected vacation photos and let your backup successfully complete in order to ensure the photos are backed up to Mozy.
How to Start a Manual Backup on Windows
Right-click on the Mozy icon in the System Tray (by the time and date on your machine)
Click on Status from the pop-up menu
On the Status window, click Start Backup
How to Start a Manual Backup on a Mac
Click on the Mozy icon in the upper menu bar
Select Backup Now from the drop-down menu
Congratulations, at this point your files should commence backing up and those vacation photos should be safely on their way to the Mozy cloud. Just make sure they stay selected on the machine and continue backing up going forward so that they remain safely backed up to your account.
