Adding and Replacing Machines within Your Account

One of the most common things we assist customers with is adding or replacing machines on their account. Today we're going to talk about how to add more computers or switch out an old computer for a new one on your account.

Add or Replace?

If you're trying to decide whether to add or replace your machine on Mozy, it comes down to a few simple options.

 

Add Your Machine

You should add the machine if these scenarios apply:

 

  • You'll be backing up both the new and old computers on the account
  • You have more than one computer in your household you want backed up
  • The two computers have different data on them

 

Replace Your Machine

You should replace the machine if these scenarios apply:

 

  • The new machine was purchased to be used instead of the old machine
  • The new machine will have the same data as the old machine
  • You will no longer be using/backing up the old computer

Adding a Machine to MozyHome

If you're looking to add a computer to MozyHome, you'll first need to make sure that your plan is set up to cover an additional machine. A MozyHome Plan can have up to 5 computers, but the plans are typically on a pay-per-computer basis. With MozyHome, you can choose a 50GB plan with 1 computer or a 125GB plan with up to 3 computers, and then you can add additional computers (up to 5) for $2 per machine per month.

 

To make sure your plan covers the additional computer you want to add, or to go in and update the plan so it does, follow these steps:

  1. Log in at mozy.com/login
  2. Click on your name/email in the upper right-hand corner
  3. Select Manage Account from the drop-down menu

  1. Click on My Plan from the left-hand Account Pages menu
  2. Review your Current plan

Note: Here you'll be able to see how many computers your plan currently covers. If you have enough spaces, you can end here and skip to the next section titled "Setting Up Additional Computers". If you don't, continue on with step 6.

 

  1. Click on Upgrade Current from the Current Plan section

  1.  Increase the number of computers from the Computers drop-down
  2. Click Continue
  3. Verify the pro-rated charge for your plan change
  4. Click Submit

Your new machine should be ready to set up. Skip ahead to the section titled "Setting Up Additional Computers."

Adding a Machine to MozyPro

With MozyPro, there are a few different ways your plan can be set up, but when it comes to machines you'll either be on one of our older itemized plans where you do pay per computer or one of our newer bundled plans which has unlimited computers.

 

Setting Up Your MozyPro Itemized Plan

 If you have a Bundled plan, you wont have a spot to increase the number of devices, only the option to change the base plan. For Bundled plans, skip ahead to the "Setting Up a User for Additional Machines" section.

 

If you have an itemized plan, follow the steps here to set up the plan for an additional machine:

 

  1. Log in as the Administrator at mozy.com/login
  2. Click on Change Plan from the left-hand menu under Resources

  1. Increase the number of Server or Desktop Devices depending on which you need
  2. (Optional) Increase the number of corresponding Server/Desktop GB for the machine
  3. Click Submit
  4. Verify your pro-rated charge
  5. Click Submit

Setting Up Users for Additional Machines

When your plan is ready to go with the additional computers, you'll want to make sure the User you want to add the machine to, and User Group that User is in, are set up and ready to go for an additional machine.

 

Increasing Devices for a User Group

If User Groups does not show up in the left-hand menu, you don't have User Groups Enabled. In that case, go ahead and skip ahead to the next section titled "Increasing Devices for a User."

 

If you have User Groups enabled on your account, follow these steps:

 

  1. Click on User Group List from the left hand menu under Quick Links
  2. Click on the Edit icon EditIcon.PNGnext to the group the User belongs to
  3. Increase the number of Devices in the boxy
  4. Click Submit

Increasing Devices for a User

When your account and User Group have the additional machine set up, it's time to increase the Devices for the User as well. To do so:

  1. Click on Search/List Users from the left hand menu under Users
  2. Click on the User Email you wish to add the new machine to
  3. Under Devices, next to Server/Desktop: # Used / # Available, click Edit
  4. Increase the number of devices
  5. Click Submit

Your User should be ready to install and set up the additional computer.

Setting Up Additional Computers

When your plan successfully is set-up to allow an additional computer, you can follow these steps to install the software and set it up as an additional computer:

 

  1. Download the latest Mozy software
  2. Run the installer on your new computer
  3. Log into the software with your username (email) and password
    • For MozyHome, this is the main email and password you log into the account with
    • For MozyPro, this is the User's email and password - For more info, see: About MozyPro passwords
  4. When prompted to Add or Replace, choose Add
  5. Continue configuring and make sure to select your files for backup

Replacing a Machine

Replacing a machine can sometimes be easier because you do not need to update your plan in order to install and set up the machine. You can simply install by following the steps here:

 

  1. Download the latest Mozy software
  2. Run the installer on your new computer
  3. Log into the software with your username (email) and password
    • For MozyHome, this is the main email and password you log into the account with
    • For MozyPro, this is the User's email and password - For more info, see: About MozyPro passwords
  4. When prompted to Add or Replace, choose Replace
  5. Choose the correct machine name to replace in your account
  6. Continue configuring and make sure to select your files for backup
